What is NGO Darpan registration?
NGO Darpan is a free online platform run by NITI Aayog with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), where voluntary organisations and NGOs register and get a unique Darpan ID. Government ministries and departments use this ID to identify NGOs that apply for grants under their schemes.
Darpan registration doesn't create an NGO; it's a registration of an existing trust, society or Section 8 company on a central database. The NGO's profile shows its legal registration, key office-bearers, areas of work, the states and districts it works in, and its achievements, which makes it easier for government bodies, donors and partners to find and verify it.
The Darpan ID is permanent, and there is no government fee. What matters is accuracy: the NGO's PAN must match its registration certificate, and the details of at least three key office-bearers are checked against their PAN and Aadhaar. Most delays come from mismatched names and documents.
Why your NGO needs a Darpan ID
Government grants
Ministries and departments ask for the Darpan ID before an NGO can apply for grants or assistance under their schemes.
Credibility
A public, verified profile on a NITI Aayog platform builds trust with donors, CSR teams and partners.
CSR and FCRA applications
CSR partners, funders and many applications commonly ask for the Darpan ID, so having it ready avoids delays.
Visibility
Donors and government bodies can search the directory by sector and location and find your NGO.
No government fee
Registration on the portal is free. You only pay our fee if you'd like us to prepare and file it for you.
Permanent ID
The Darpan ID stays with your NGO. You update the profile when office-bearers or details change.

NGO Darpan vs 12A/80G, CSR-1 and FCRA
NGOs often confuse these registrations. Here's what each one does and who grants it.
| Registration | What it's for | Granted by | When you need it |
|---|---|---|---|
| NGO Darpan ID | Unique ID on NITI Aayog's NGO database | NITI Aayog | Before applying for government grants; useful for CSR and funders |
| 12A (Section 332) | Income tax exemption for the NGO | Income Tax Department | Soon after the NGO is registered |
| 80G (Section 354) | Tax deduction for donors | Income Tax Department | Before raising donations |
| CSR-1 | Eligibility to receive CSR funds from companies | Ministry of Corporate Affairs | Before taking CSR projects (track record and tax registrations needed) |
| FCRA | Permission to receive foreign contributions | Ministry of Home Affairs | Before accepting any foreign donation |

Usually a few working days after submission, once the NGO's PAN and office-bearers' details are verified. Mismatched names or numbers cause most delays.
Why is my NGO Darpan registration not getting verified?+
Common reasons are the NGO's name on the PAN not matching the registration certificate, wrong PAN or Aadhaar details of office-bearers, duplicate registrations using the same PAN, or incomplete profile fields. We check these before filing.
How many office-bearers are needed for NGO Darpan?+
At least three key office-bearers, such as President, Secretary and Treasurer, or three trustees or directors, with their PAN and Aadhaar details.

Requirements change from time to time, but CSR partners and many application forms commonly ask for it, so it's wise to have a Darpan ID before applying for CSR-1 or FCRA.
Does the Darpan ID expire?+

Can one NGO have more than one Darpan ID?+

Can you register our NGO on Darpan without taking over our account?+
Yes. We register with your NGO's own email and mobile, so OTPs and login stay with you. We guide you through the OTPs and share the login details only with your authorised person.
