What is ISO certification?
ISO certification is independent confirmation that your business runs a management system meeting an international standard, such as ISO 9001 for quality. The standards are written by the International Organization for Standardization, but ISO itself does not issue certificates. Certification bodies audit you and issue them, and accreditation bodies check those certification bodies.
Buyers, government tenders, export customers and large companies often ask for ISO certificates as proof that you deliver consistently. Done well, the system also helps you: fewer mistakes, clearer roles, happier customers and decisions based on data.
Done badly, it's a file of copied documents nobody reads and a certificate from an unaccredited body that buyers reject. We build the first kind, and only work with accredited certification bodies.
Which ISO standard do you need?
Most businesses start with ISO 9001. Your buyers, tenders or sector may ask for others.
ISO 9001:2026 · Quality
The most widely used standard, for any business. Consistent products and services and satisfied customers.
ISO 14001:2026 · Environment
Manage waste, emissions and environmental compliance. Often asked for by exporters and large buyers.
ISO 45001:2018 · Health & safety
Prevent workplace injuries and ill health. Common in manufacturing, construction and facility services.
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 · Information security
Protect customer and company data. Expected by IT, SaaS, BPO and fintech clients.
ISO 22000:2018 · Food safety
Food safety management for manufacturers, processors, caterers and packaging suppliers.
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 · AI management
Responsible development and use of AI systems, increasingly requested by enterprise clients.
ISO 13485:2016 · Medical devices
Quality management for makers and suppliers of medical devices and components.
Others on request
ISO 50001 energy, ISO/IEC 20000-1 IT services, ISO 37001 anti-bribery and more.

How to tell an accredited ISO certificate from a fake one
Cheap "instant ISO certificates" are common, and many buyers and tenders reject them. Check these before you pay anyone.
| Check | Accredited certificate | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Audit | Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits of your actual work | Certificate in 1 to 3 days with no real audit |
| Accreditation | Mark of an IAF-member accreditation body, such as NABCB in India | No accreditation mark, or an unknown "board" or "forum" |
| Verification | Searchable in the IAF CertSearch database or the body's register | Can't be verified anywhere independent |
| Validity | 3 years, with yearly surveillance audits | 1 year or "lifetime", no surveillance |
| Wording | Says "certified to ISO 9001" by the certification body | Claims to be issued or approved by ISO itself |
The 3-year cycle, and what's changing in 2026
An ISO certificate isn't a one-time event. Here's what the next three years look like.
- Year 1Initial certificationStage 1 and Stage 2 audits, then a certificate valid for 3 years.
- Years 2–3Surveillance auditsA shorter audit each year to confirm the system is still working. Missing one can suspend your certificate.
- Year 3RecertificationA fuller audit before expiry starts the next 3-year cycle.
- ISO 9001:2026New version published 16 September 2026Adds quality culture and ethical behaviour, separates risks from opportunities, and strengthens change management. ISO 9001:2015 certificates must transition by 30 September 2029.
- ISO 14001:2026New version published April 2026Existing ISO 14001:2015 certificates have a transition window of about three years, to around the end of April 2029.

Website plansISO certification: frequently asked questions
What is ISO certification?+
It is independent confirmation, by an accredited certification body, that your business runs a management system meeting an ISO standard such as ISO 9001. ISO writes the standards but doesn't certify anyone itself.
How much does ISO certification cost?+
Our consulting fee is ₹14,999 + GST for one standard and up to 25 staff, ₹29,999 for an integrated system or a larger team, and ₹49,999 for specialist standards like ISO 27001. The certification body's audit fee is separate and depends on your size and audit days.
How long does ISO certification take?+
Usually 8 to 14 weeks from start to certificate for a small business starting from scratch, and faster if you already have documented processes. Specialist standards and larger organisations take longer.
Which ISO certification is best for a small business?+
ISO 9001 is the most common starting point, because it applies to any business and is widely recognised by buyers and tenders. Add ISO 14001, 45001 or 27001 if your customers or sector ask for them.
What is the latest version of ISO 9001?+
ISO 9001:2026, published on 16 September 2026. Existing ISO 9001:2015 certificates remain valid during a three-year transition period ending 30 September 2029.
What changed in ISO 9001:2026?+
It adds requirements on quality culture and ethical behaviour, treats risks and opportunities separately, and strengthens change management. The core structure, process approach and PDCA cycle remain the same.
How do I know if an ISO certificate is genuine?+
Check that it carries the mark of an IAF-member accreditation body such as NABCB, that it can be verified on the IAF CertSearch database or the certification body's register, and that it followed a proper Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit.
Do you issue the ISO certificate?+
No. We are consultants. The certificate is issued by an independent accredited certification body after its own audit. Keeping consulting and certification separate is what makes the certificate credible.
How long is an ISO certificate valid?+
Three years, with a surveillance audit each year. Before the three years end, a recertification audit renews it for another cycle.
What is a surveillance audit?+
A shorter yearly audit by the certification body to confirm your system is still working. Skipping it or failing to close findings can lead to suspension of the certificate.
What are Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits?+
Stage 1 checks your documents and readiness. Stage 2 checks that the system actually works in practice, through interviews, records and observation. The certificate is issued after Stage 2.
How many audit days will my certification need?+
Accreditation rules set audit days based mainly on the number of employees, the standard and the complexity of your business. For ISO 9001, a team of 20 typically needs about 3 audit days for initial certification.
Can I get ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 together?+
Yes. An integrated management system covers several standards with one set of processes and one combined audit, which saves time and audit days.
Is ISO certification mandatory?+
Generally no, but many government tenders, export buyers and large companies require it, and some sectors and products have their own certification rules.
Is ISO 27001 needed for IT and SaaS companies?+
It isn't a legal requirement, but enterprise clients, banks and overseas customers increasingly ask for it as proof of information security, often alongside data protection compliance.
What is needed from our side?+
A coordinator who owns the system and spends 2 to 4 hours a week on it, access to how you really work, and leadership involvement in the management review and audit.
Can you help us move to ISO 9001:2026 or ISO 14001:2026?+
Yes. We do a gap analysis against the new version, update your documents, brief your team and prepare you for the transition audit, usually at your next surveillance or recertification audit.
Do you support us after certification?+
Yes. Our annual surveillance support covers an internal audit, a management review, updated records and preparation for each yearly audit, for ₹7,999 per standard per year.
