What you can check here

Three tools in one place: a combined name check, a company search on MCA records, and a trademark search on the Indian trademark register.

Verify a company

Find a CIN or LLPIN

Get the Corporate Identification Number you need for invoices, vendor forms, GST and bank paperwork.

Check a new name

One search tells you if the name is free as a company name and as a trademark, with a clear overall verdict and name ideas.

Search trademarks

Find existing marks by name and class, with status, owner and application number, before you build a brand.

Company details

Status, date of incorporation, Registrar of Companies, company type and registered office, as per MCA records.

Why both

Why check the company name and trademark together?

They are two different registers, and a name can pass one and fail the other.

Common mistake: MCA approving your company name does not give you rights to the brand. Only a trademark does. MCA can also reject a company name that conflicts with a registered trademark.

Name rules

Company name rules: what MCA rejects

Under the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014, a name is rejected if it is identical or too similar to an existing one, or uses restricted words without approval.

  • Identical namesDifferences only in plural or singular, punctuation, spacing, "the", "and" / "&", or the company type (Private Limited, Ltd, LLP) don't make a name new. "Blue Peak Solutions" and "Bluepeak Solution Pvt Ltd" are the same to MCA.
  • Too similar or misleadingNames that closely resemble an existing company, a registered trademark, or a well-known brand are usually rejected.
  • Words needing approvalWords such as National, Union, Board, Commission, Authority, Federal or Republic need Central Government approval. Bank, Insurance, Stock Exchange, Mutual Fund, Nidhi or Venture Capital need the regulator's clearance.
  • Prohibited namesNames covered by the Emblems and Names Act, offensive words, or names suggesting a link with the Government or a foreign government without approval.
  • What works wellA distinctive word plus your activity, for example "Bluepeak Technologies Private Limited". Original coined words are approved most easily.
  • Required endings"Private Limited" for private companies, "(OPC) Private Limited" for one person companies, "Limited" for public companies and "LLP" for LLPs.

Our name check follows these rules, but it is indicative. The final decision is made by MCA's Central Registration Centre.

Trademarks

Trademark search basics

What the trademark results mean, and how to read them.

  • ClassesTrademarks are registered for one or more of 45 classes (1–34 goods, 35–45 services). The same name can belong to different owners in different classes, so a conflict in your own class matters most.
  • RegisteredThe mark is protected. An identical or similar name in the same class is a real risk.
  • Pending, objected or advertisedStill being examined, or published for opposition. It can still become a registered mark, so treat it as a risk.
  • Abandoned, refused, withdrawn or removedNo longer active. Usually low risk, but the earlier owner may still use the name.
  • Similar, not just identicalMarks that look or sound alike ("Bluepeak" and "Blu Peek") can also conflict. Our check flags those too.
  • Government fee₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others.

FAQs

Company name & trademark search: FAQs

How do I check if a business name is available in India?

Type the name in Name check at the top of this page and choose your company type and business. We check it against MCA company records using MCA's naming rules and against the Indian trademark register in the classes that matter for your business, and give you one overall verdict. The result is indicative; MCA and the Trade Marks Registry make the final decisions.

Why should I check the company name and trademark together?

They are separate registers. MCA can approve a company name that someone else owns as a trademark, and that owner can then ask you to stop using it as a brand. MCA can also reject a company name that conflicts with a registered trademark. Checking both first avoids rebranding later.

Is this search free?

Yes. The name check, company search and trademark search on this page are free. We only charge if you want our experts to reserve a name, file a trademark or register your company.

How do I search for a company registered with MCA?

Choose Company, then type the company's name, CIN or LLPIN. You'll see matching companies with their CIN and status, and you can tap one for its date of incorporation, Registrar of Companies, type and registered office.

How do I search for a trademark in India?

Choose Trademark, type the name and optionally pick a class. You'll see matching marks with class, status, owner and application number. A trademark search on this page is a quick screen; for an important brand, ask us for a detailed search report.

Which trademark class should I choose?

It depends on what you sell. For example, software and IT services are usually in classes 9 and 42, consulting and e-commerce in 35, restaurants in 43, clothing in 25 and education in 41. Choose your business in Name check and we pick the right classes for you.

Why would MCA reject a company name?

The most common reasons are that it is identical or too similar to an existing company or LLP, conflicts with a registered trademark, uses words like Bank, Insurance, National or Board without approval, or is undesirable under the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014.

Is a name different if I add Private Limited, an S or a hyphen?

No. Under MCA's rules, differences only in plural or singular, punctuation, spacing, the words the or and, or the type of company (Private Limited, Ltd, LLP) do not make a name different from an existing one.

Does registering a company name give me trademark rights?

No. A company name approved by MCA only registers your legal entity. Rights over a brand come from a trademark registration (or prior use). That's why we recommend filing a trademark along with your company name.

How do I reserve a company name and what does it cost?

A company name can be approved through RUN (Reserve Unique Name, up to 2 names, MCA fee ₹1,000) or directly in SPICe+ Part A during incorporation; LLP names go through RUN-LLP. An approved company name is reserved for 20 days. Our professional fee is ₹999 + GST, and it is free with our company and LLP registration plans.

What is the government fee for a trademark application?

₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others. You can use the ™ symbol once you have filed, and ® only after registration.

What does strike off mean on MCA?

A struck-off company has been removed from the register of companies, usually for not filing returns or not doing business. It can't carry on business unless it is restored by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

How accurate is the data shown here?

Company and trademark details come from public MCA and trademark records and may not include the very latest filings or status changes. Verify important details on the official portals, or ask us to verify them for you.

Can you help if my company is not filing or shows as inactive?

Yes. Our CA and CS team handles annual ROC filings, overdue filings, changes in directors or name, and closing a company properly. Tap Get compliance help on the company's details or message us on WhatsApp.
