Overview

What is WhatsApp marketing?

WhatsApp marketing means sending offers, updates, reminders and product messages to customers who've agreed to hear from you on WhatsApp, using Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform. Messages can carry images, videos, buttons, product catalogues and payment links, and customers can reply straight away.

Most of your customers already open WhatsApp many times a day, so a well-timed message is far more likely to be seen than an email. And because it's a conversation, a "Yes, I'm interested" can turn into an order in the same chat.

Done wrong, with bought lists, too many messages or unofficial bulk tools, it gets numbers reported and blocked. We do it the right way: opted-in contacts, approved templates, sensible frequency, and messages people are glad to get.

The rules that keep your number safe

WhatsApp protects its users strictly. These rules decide whether your campaigns grow or your number gets limited.

  • Consent
Only message people who opted inCollect clear opt-in on your website, checkout, forms or in-store, and honour opt-outs immediately. Bought or scraped lists get reported.
  • Templates
Approved templates to start conversationsMarketing, utility and authentication templates are reviewed by Meta, and the category decides the price.
  • Quality
Quality rating and limitsBlocks and reports lower your quality rating and can pause templates or reduce how many people you can message a day.
  • Frequency
Don't over-sendMeta limits how many marketing messages each person receives across businesses, so too many offers can simply go undelivered.
  • Pricing
Pay per delivered templateMeta charges per delivered template message. Since 1 October 2026, replies beyond 1,000 a month per number are also charged; chats from Click-to-WhatsApp ads stay free for 72 hours.
  • Policy
Allowed products onlyMeta's Commerce Policy restricts items such as alcohol, tobacco, weapons, drugs and some financial and medical offers.

FAQs

WhatsApp marketing: frequently asked questions

What is WhatsApp marketing?

Sending offers, updates, reminders and product messages on WhatsApp to customers who've opted in, using the official WhatsApp Business Platform, with images, buttons, catalogues and two-way chat.

How much does WhatsApp marketing cost?

Our plans are ₹4,999, ₹9,999 and ₹19,999 a month + GST, including the WhatsApp Business Platform. Meta also charges per delivered template message: for Indian numbers, about ₹0.86 per marketing message, plus GST.

Can I send bulk WhatsApp messages without getting banned?

Yes, on the official WhatsApp Business Platform, using approved templates sent to people who've opted in. Unofficial bulk-sender tools and bought lists are what usually get numbers banned.

Do customers need to opt in?

Yes. WhatsApp requires opt-in before you send business messages. We help you collect it on your website, checkout, forms, ads and in-store, and add an easy opt-out to every marketing message.

What is a message template?

A pre-approved message format that Meta reviews before you can use it to start a conversation. Templates are categorised as marketing, utility or authentication, which sets the price.

Is there a limit on how many people I can message?

Yes. New numbers start with a daily limit on unique customers, which grows as you send good-quality messages. Meta also limits how many marketing messages each person receives from businesses.

What are Click-to-WhatsApp ads?

Facebook and Instagram ads that open a WhatsApp chat with your business. Conversations started from these ads are free for 72 hours once you reply, and they grow your opted-in list.

Can WhatsApp recover abandoned carts?

Yes. When connected to your store, WhatsApp can automatically remind shoppers about items left in their cart, with the product image and a link to complete the order.

Can I use my existing number?

Yes, but a number registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform can't be used in the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app at the same time. Many businesses use a new number for marketing.

How long does it take to start?

Usually about a week: 2 to 5 working days for platform setup and Meta verification, then templates and your first campaign.

What kind of results can I expect?

It depends on your list, offer and timing. Well-targeted WhatsApp messages usually get more attention and clicks than email, but we don't promise specific numbers; we test and report every month.

Can I send images, videos and buttons?

Yes. Templates can include an image, video or document, text with personalisation, and buttons such as Shop now, Call us or quick replies.

What happens when customers reply?

Replies come into a shared team inbox, where your team can chat, assign conversations and close sales. Automated replies can handle common questions.

Are replies to customers charged?

Since 1 October 2026, each number gets 1,000 free service replies a month; replies beyond that are charged at the utility rate. Messages customers send you are always free.

Can I send messages to customers who haven't opted in?

No. Messaging people without consent breaks WhatsApp's policies, leads to blocks and reports, and can get your number restricted.

What products can't be promoted on WhatsApp?

Meta's Commerce Policy restricts items such as alcohol, tobacco, weapons, drugs, adult products and some financial and medical offers. We check your use case before starting.

Do you design the campaign creatives?

Yes. We write the copy and design the images for each campaign, in your brand style, and get templates approved.

What's the difference between this and the WhatsApp Business API page?

The WhatsApp Business API service gives you the platform to run things yourself. WhatsApp Marketing is the managed service where we plan, create, send and optimise campaigns for you.
