What is GST amendment?
GST amendment means updating the details in your GST registration when something changes in your business. Under Rule 19 of the CGST Rules, a registered person must apply in Form GST REG-14 within 15 days of the change. There is no government fee.
Changes are of two kinds. Core field changes, such as your business address, legal name or partners and directors, need approval from the GST officer. Non-core changes, such as bank account, authorised signatory or goods and services, are updated straight away without approval.
Keeping registration details up to date matters more than it seems. An old address can fail physical verification, a wrong bank account blocks refunds, an outdated signatory can lock you out of the portal, and mismatched details lead to notices. Some changes, such as a new PAN or a move to another State, can't be made by amendment at all and need a fresh registration.
Core and non-core amendments
Which list your change falls under decides whether the officer must approve it.
Core fields: officer approval
- Legal name of the business, without a change in PAN
- Address of the principal place of business, within the same State
- Adding, changing or removing additional places of business, within the same State
- Adding or removing partners, directors, Karta, trustees or managing committee members responsible for day-to-day affairs
Non-core fields: instant update
- Trade name
- Bank account details
- Authorised signatories, and their mobile and email
- Goods and services (HSN / SAC codes)
- Business activities and nature of premises
- Other stakeholder and contact details
How approval works
- Core changes are filed in REG-14 and approved in REG-15
- The officer must decide within 15 working days, or the change is treated as approved
- If the officer asks for clarification (REG-03), reply in REG-04 within 7 working days
- Non-core changes need no approval and update once submitted
Changes that need a new GST registration
These changes can't be made by amending your existing GSTIN. You need a fresh registration, and usually cancellation of the old one.
- 1Change of PANFor example, converting a proprietorship or partnership into a company or LLP. The new entity registers afresh, and unused input tax credit can be transferred in Form ITC-02.
- 2Moving to another StateEach GSTIN is State-specific. Shifting your business to another State needs registration there, and cancellation in the old State if you no longer operate there.
- 3Starting business in another StateOpening a branch or warehouse in a new State needs a separate GSTIN in that State. It isn't an additional place of business.
- 4Sale or transfer of the businessThe buyer registers under its own PAN. Credit can be transferred through ITC-02 where the law allows.
Partnership changes: adding or removing a partner is usually a core amendment, as long as the firm's PAN stays the same. If the firm is dissolved and a new one formed with a new PAN, a fresh registration is needed. See our GST registration service.

How do I change my bank account in GST?+
Through a non-core amendment, adding the new account with a cancelled cheque or bank statement in the business name. Keeping the correct bank account matters for refunds.
Can I change my trade name in GST?+
Yes. Trade name is a non-core field, so it is updated immediately. Changing the legal name, however, is a core amendment and needs the new name to be reflected in PAN and other records first.
Is there any fee for GST amendment?+
There is no government fee. Our professional fee starts at ₹999 + GST for non-core changes and ₹1,999 + GST for core changes, covering all changes filed together in one application.
What if my GST amendment is rejected?+

Can I amend GST registration while a cancellation is pending?+
Generally no. Amendments can't be filed while a cancellation application or proceeding is pending. If your registration has been cancelled by the officer, you first need to apply for revocation.
