Website cost in India by type of website

| Large or custom website | Unlimited pages, custom design, integrations | ₹25,000–₹1,00,000+ | From ₹9,999 |

Every cost of a website, explained
The build fee is only one line. Here is everything you pay to get a website online and keep it running.
1. Design and development (one-time)
This is the main fee: planning the pages, designing the layout, building it, adding your text and photos, setting up forms and testing it on phones and computers. It depends mostly on the number of pages, the features and whether the design is custom or based on a ready theme.
2. Domain name (yearly)
Your web address, such as yourbusiness.in or yourbusiness.com. A standard .com or .in domain usually costs a few hundred rupees to about ₹1,500 a year, depending on the registrar and offers. Premium or already-taken names can cost much more. Many web developers, including us, include the domain free in the first year. Your domain also gives you business email addresses on your own name.
3. Hosting (yearly)
Hosting is the server space that keeps your website online. Shared hosting for a small website is cheapest; cloud or VPS hosting costs more but is faster and handles more visitors. For a small business site, hosting typically costs from about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 a year. Online stores and busy websites need better hosting.
4. SSL certificate
SSL gives your website https and the padlock in the browser. A basic SSL certificate is usually free with hosting. Businesses that need an organisation-validated or wildcard certificate pay yearly for it; see SSL certificates.
5. Business email
Email IDs on your own domain (like info@yourbusiness.in) look far more trustworthy than a free Gmail address. Some plans include email IDs; dedicated business email services charge per mailbox per month.
6. Logo and branding
If you don't have a logo, a designer will charge separately, unless it is included in the website plan. Our website plans include a free logo.
7. Content and photos
Someone has to write the page text and provide photos. Basic text is often included; long-form copywriting, product descriptions for hundreds of items and professional photo shoots are usually extra. Licensed stock images can fill gaps.
8. GST at 18%
Website design and development is an IT service, so 18% GST applies to the fee when the developer is GST-registered. If your business is GST-registered, you can usually claim this as input tax credit. Always ask for a proper GST invoice.
9. Payment gateway charges (online stores)
To accept UPI, cards and net banking, you need a payment gateway. Integration is a one-time development task, but the gateway charges its own fee on each transaction, set by the gateway and the payment method. The gateway will also ask for your business KYC documents.
10. Maintenance and updates
Websites need software updates, backups, security and occasional changes. Some developers charge a yearly maintenance fee; others include basic support. Check this before you sign, because it decides your real yearly cost.
Want a fixed price with no surprises?
Our plans include domain, hosting, SSL, logo, business email and payment gateway integration. You pay one price plus GST.
What changes the price of a website
- Number of pages: each service, product category or location page takes time to design and fill.
- Custom design vs theme: a fully custom design takes longer than adapting a proven theme.
- Features: online payments, booking systems, multiple languages, member logins and integrations add work.
- eCommerce: product setup, variants, shipping rules, coupons and order emails add to the cost.
- Content: writing all the text and sourcing photos is real work if the developer does it.
- SEO setup: keyword research, titles, descriptions, schema and sitemaps take time but pay back.
- Speed and security: caching, image optimisation, firewalls and backups.
- Who builds it: freelancers, small agencies and large agencies price very differently.
- Deadline: rush delivery can cost more.
Freelancer vs agency vs DIY: cost compared
| Option | Upfront cost | Yearly cost | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DIY website builder | Low | Monthly subscription every year | Very simple sites if you have time | Your time, limited SEO, locked to the platform |
| Freelancer | Low to medium | Domain, hosting, maybe maintenance | Small sites with a trusted person | Availability, who holds the logins |
| Small agency (like us) | Low to medium, fixed plans | Domain and hosting renewal | Most small and growing businesses | Check what's included |
| Large agency | High, often lakhs | Retainers and maintenance | Big brands, complex projects | Long timelines, higher cost |
What you pay every year after launch
The biggest surprise for many business owners is the year-two bill. Ask every developer to write down the renewal cost before you pay. Typically you renew:
- Domain name (every year, or for several years at once).
- Hosting (yearly; the first-year price is often a discount).
- Paid SSL or business email, if you chose paid ones.
- Premium themes or plugins, if your site uses licences that renew.
- Maintenance, if your developer charges for it.
With iBACT Digital there is no yearly design fee. Only domain and hosting renew, and we tell you the amount upfront and remind you before it's due.
Example budgets for common businesses
What a typical small business pays with us
- Clinic or consultant, 5 pages: Starter plan ₹4,999 + ₹900 GST = ₹5,899 one-time.
- Service business, 12 pages with blog: Classic plan ₹6,999 + ₹1,260 GST = ₹8,259 one-time.
- Boutique selling online: Single vendor store ₹8,999 + ₹1,620 GST = ₹10,619 one-time, plus gateway fees per order.
- Local marketplace: Multi vendor store ₹11,999 + ₹2,160 GST = ₹14,159 one-time.
All include free domain, hosting, SSL and logo for the first year. From year two, only domain and hosting renewal applies.
Hidden costs to ask about before you pay
- Is the domain registered in my business name? If not, you could lose your address and email.
- What does renewal cost in year two? Get it in writing.
- How many revisions are included? Some quotes charge for every change.
- Are the theme and plugins licensed? Pirated "nulled" themes are a security risk.
- Is basic SEO included? Titles, descriptions, sitemap and Search Console setup.
- Who writes the content? Text and photos are often excluded.
- Do I get full admin access? You should be able to edit your own site.
- What happens if I want to move later? You should be able to take your site and domain anywhere.
How to save money on your website without cutting corners
- Start with the pages you really need; add more later from the admin panel.
- Prepare your text, photos and logo before the project starts.
- Choose a plan that includes domain, hosting, SSL and email rather than paying for each separately.
- Use a proven platform like WordPress so you're not locked to one developer.
- Pick one clear goal for the website: calls, WhatsApp enquiries or online orders.
- Don't pay for features you won't use in the first year.
- Ask for a GST invoice so you can claim input tax credit if registered.
How much does an eCommerce website cost in India?
An online store costs more than a business website because it needs product pages, cart, checkout, payment gateway, shipping rules, order emails and stock management. Typical prices range from around ₹9,000 for a ready-made store on a proven platform to ₹1.5 lakh or more for a custom store. Our eCommerce website development starts at ₹8,999 + GST with unlimited products. After launch, budget for payment gateway fees on each order, shipping, and hosting that can handle your traffic.
How long does it take to build a website?
A small business website can go live in 3 to 5 days once you share your details, content and photos. Online stores usually take 5 to 7 days with product upload. Large custom websites and web apps take weeks to months. The biggest delay is usually waiting for content, so have it ready.

Is a cheap website a bad idea?
Not always. A low price is fine if the website is built on a proven platform, the domain is in your name, you get admin access, SEO basics are done and renewal costs are clear. Be careful of quotes that hide yearly fees or keep the domain in the developer's name.
How long does it take to build a website?
A small business website can go live in 3 to 5 days and an online store in 5 to 7 days, once your details, content and photos are ready. Large custom projects take weeks or months.
Why do website quotes vary so much?
Because the scope differs: number of pages, custom design, eCommerce features, content writing, SEO setup, integrations and who builds it. Compare quotes on what is included, not just the price.
Do I have to pay every year for my website?
You pay the design and development fee once. Domain and hosting renew every year, because they are rented services. Ask your developer to write down the renewal cost before you pay.
Can I build a website myself to save money?
Yes, with a website builder, but you pay a subscription every year and spend your own time on design, SEO and setup. Many businesses find a fixed-price developer plan cheaper overall.
