Uttarakhand's businesses range from the auto, FMCG, pharma and electronics plants of the SIDCUL estates at Haridwar, Pantnagar (Rudrapur), Sitarganj and Selaqui and the industries of Kashipur and Kotdwar to Dehradun's markets, schools and offices, Haldwani's mandi, hotels and homestays in Mussoorie, Nainital and Rishikesh, the Char Dham pilgrimage trade of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, hydropower and road projects in the hills, and rice, sugarcane, fruit and woollens. One GST registration covers your business across the State; add branches or godowns in other districts as additional places of business.

Your application is assigned either to the Uttarakhand Commercial Tax Department (State GST) or to the Central GST (CBIC) administration based on your address, and the jurisdiction is printed on your registration certificate. Either way, the process is the same and fully online.

₹20 lakh limit in Uttarakhand: GST registration is compulsory above ₹20 lakh turnover for goods as well as for services, because Uttarakhand did not adopt the ₹40 lakh goods limit; the composition limit is ₹75 lakh. Turnover counts all your businesses under the same PAN across India, and selling goods to other States needs registration from the first sale.

Avoid delays

Why GST applications from Uttarakhand get stuck, and how we prevent it

  • Address
Address proof doesn't matchThe door number, ward or PIN on the electricity bill or property papers differs from the application. We match them before filing.
  • Land papers
Property in someone else's nameIf the building or land is still in a parent's or grandparent's name, add the owner's consent letter and ID. We check the khatauni or tax receipt before uploading.
  • Aadhaar
Aadhaar authentication skippedWithout it, the officer can order a site visit and approval can take up to 30 days. We complete it on day one.
  • Photos
Unclear photos of the premisesOfficers often ask for a photo showing the name board and the building. We tell you exactly what to click.
  • Limit
Assuming the ₹40 lakh limitMany people expect the ₹40 lakh goods limit, but in Uttarakhand the limit is ₹20 lakh for goods too. Late registration means tax, interest and penalty on past sales.
  • Codes
Wrong HSN/SAC or business typeChoosing the wrong codes or constitution leads to queries later. We select them based on what you actually sell.
  • Queries
Missing the 7-day reply windowAn unanswered query (REG-03) leads to rejection. We reply within the deadline, with no extra fee.

FAQs

GST registration in Uttarakhand: FAQs

How much does GST registration cost in Uttarakhand?

Registration itself is free on the GST portal. Our fixed fee for a business in Uttarakhand starts at ₹499 + GST, with no extra charge for handling officer queries or re-uploading documents.

How long does GST registration take in Uttarakhand?

Most applications from Uttarakhand are approved in 3 to 7 working days after Aadhaar authentication. If Aadhaar authentication is skipped, or the officer orders a physical verification of your premises, it can take up to 30 days. We track the application and reply to any query for you.

What is the GST registration limit for businesses in Uttarakhand?

In Uttarakhand, registration is compulsory once aggregate turnover crosses ₹20 lakh, for goods as well as for services. The ₹40 lakh limit for goods used in many States does not apply here. Sellers of goods to other States and e-commerce sellers of goods across States must register from the first sale.

Which documents are needed for GST registration in Uttarakhand?

PAN and Aadhaar of the proprietor, partners or directors, a photograph, bank proof, and proof of your business address in Uttarakhand: a recent UPCL electricity bill, the house tax receipt from the nagar nigam, nagar palika or nagar panchayat, or the khatauni from Devbhoomi Bhulekh for your own land, with the owner's consent if the property is in a family member's name. For rented premises, add the rent agreement.

What is the GST state code for Uttarakhand?

05. Every GSTIN issued to a business registered in Uttarakhand, including one in Uttarakhand, starts with 05, followed by the PAN of the business.

How can I get a GST number in Uttarakhand?

Share your PAN, Aadhaar, photo, address proof and bank details with us on WhatsApp. We file Form GST REG-01 online, you confirm an Aadhaar OTP, and the department issues your 15-digit GSTIN starting with 05 and the registration certificate.

Why is the GST limit for goods ₹20 lakh in Uttarakhand?

In 2019 the GST Council let States raise the limit for suppliers of goods to ₹40 lakh. Uttarakhand, a special category State, is outside that limit, so a business here selling only goods must register once turnover crosses ₹20 lakh, and the composition limit is ₹75 lakh instead of ₹1.5 crore. The services limit is ₹20 lakh, as in most States.

Can I register GST from my home in Uttarakhand?

Yes. Your house can be the principal place of business, with an electricity bill or house tax receipt, and a consent letter if the house is in a family member's name. Keep a small name board for any verification.

Can a small business in Uttarakhand choose the composition scheme?

Yes. In Uttarakhand, traders and manufacturers with turnover up to ₹75 lakh can opt for composition and pay 1% of turnover (5% for restaurants), and service providers up to ₹50 lakh pay 6%. You can't collect GST from customers or claim input tax credit, and goods can't be sold to other States.

Is there profession tax in Uttarakhand?

No. Uttarakhand does not levy profession tax, so businesses and employers in Uttarakhand only deal with GST, income tax and TDS. Shops and offices still register under the Uttarakhand Shops and Establishment Act.

Can I sell on Amazon or Flipkart from Uttarakhand without GST?

Only within Uttarakhand. Small sellers supplying goods only within their own State can sell through marketplaces with an enrolment number instead of GST below the limit. To sell to buyers in other States through Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho, you need GST registration from the first sale.

Do I need a separate GST registration for a branch in another district of Uttarakhand?

No. One GST registration covers the whole State. A shop, godown or office in another district of Uttarakhand is added as an additional place of business. You need a separate registration only for another State.

I have an office in Uttarakhand and another in Delhi or Uttarakhand. Is one GST registration enough?

No. GST registration is State-wise. Your Uttarakhand premises are registered in Uttarakhand (GSTIN starting 05); an office in Delhi needs its own registration (starting 07) and one in Noida or elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh another (starting 09), under the same PAN.

When are GST returns due for a business in Uttarakhand?

Monthly filers submit GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. Small taxpayers under the QRMP scheme in Uttarakhand file GSTR-3B by the 24th of the month after the quarter. Composition dealers file CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter.

Do I need a trade licence along with GST in Uttarakhand?

GST doesn't need one, but nagar nigams, nagar palikas and nagar panchayats issue trade licences for shops in their towns, and shops and offices register under the Uttarakhand Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017. A trade licence is also useful supporting proof of your place of business.

Do SIDCUL units and their vendors in Uttarakhand need GST registration from the start?

Usually yes. Auto, FMCG, pharma and electronics plants in the SIDCUL estates and the vendors that supply them sell to companies, cross the ₹20 lakh limit quickly and need a GSTIN to give tax invoices, claim input tax credit and move goods with e-way bills. Exporters also file an LUT; we handle it with your registration.

Which GST office handles a business in Uttarakhand?
