Google Shopping ads management: the short answer
Google Shopping ads show a product's image, title, price and store name when someone searches for that product on Google. They run from your Google Merchant Center product feed, not from keywords. Shopping ads management means keeping Merchant Center approved and healthy, optimising the feed so products match the right searches, structuring Shopping and Performance Max campaigns by margin and best sellers, tracking purchases with order value, and bidding for return on ad spend (ROAS). At iBACT Digital, Shopping and Merchant Center feed management are part of our Scale plan: 10% of ad spend, minimum ₹24,999 a month, plus GST. Your ad budget is paid directly to Google, and there is no lock-in.
What Google Shopping ads are, and why online stores use them
When someone searches "running shoes for men" or "steel water bottle 1 litre", Google often shows a row of product cards with photos and prices before any text ads. Those are Shopping ads. Because the shopper sees the product and price before clicking, the clicks you pay for usually come from people who are already interested in buying.
Shopping ads don't use keywords. Google reads your product feed (title, description, price, image, brand and category) and decides which searches each product matches. That makes the feed, not the ad copy, the most important thing to manage.
Shoppers compare products before clicking, so clicks are better qualified.
Your product titles and attributes decide which searches you appear for.
Success is sales value for every rupee spent, not clicks or leads.
The same Merchant Center feed can also show your products in free listings on Google.
Standard Shopping vs Performance Max: which we use
| Standard Shopping | Performance Max with a feed | |
|---|---|---|
| Where products show | Shopping results on Google Search and the Shopping tab | Shopping placements plus YouTube, Display, Gmail and Discover |
| Control | More control over products, bids and search terms | More automation, less visibility into each placement |
| Best for | Testing products, tight budgets, clear margins | Stores with steady sales data and good creative assets |
| How we use it | For control, new launches and key product groups | For scaling once purchase tracking and the feed are solid |

Google Merchant Center: setup and health checks
Before a single Shopping ad can run, Google needs to trust your store. These are the basics we set up and keep an eye on.
- Website verified and claimed in Merchant Center, matching the domain in your feed.
- Clear store policies on your site: shipping, returns and refunds, contact details and secure checkout.
- Shipping settings in Merchant Center that match what customers actually pay at checkout.
- Prices and stock in the feed that match your product pages, kept in sync automatically.
- Linked accounts: Merchant Center linked to Google Ads, and to Google Analytics where useful.
- Regular diagnostics: warnings and item issues checked every week, before they turn into disapprovals.
Product feed optimisation: titles that match how people search
Google matches Shopping ads to searches mostly from your product title. A vague title means fewer impressions and the wrong searches.
| Before | After | Why it works better |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Runner | [Brand] Classic Runner Men's Running Shoes – Navy, Size 9 | Brand, product type, gender, colour and size match real searches |
| Steel Bottle Pro | [Brand] Stainless Steel Water Bottle 1 Litre – Insulated, Leak-Proof | Material, capacity and key features people type |
| Kurti 201 | [Brand] Women's Cotton Printed Straight Kurti – Blue, M | Fabric, style, colour and size instead of an internal code |
Examples show the pattern only; we use your real brand and product details. Along with titles, we fill in GTIN or MPN, brand, Google product category, product type, colour, size, material and high-quality images on a white or clean background.
Common product disapprovals we fix
| Issue | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Price mismatch | The feed price differs from the product page, often after a sale or discount change |
| Availability mismatch | Out-of-stock items still marked "in stock" in the feed, or the opposite |
| Missing or incorrect GTIN | Branded products without valid barcodes, or wrong identifiers |
| Image issues | Promotional text, watermarks, placeholder or low-quality images |
| Shipping not set | No shipping rule for the delivery country or region |
| Landing page problems | Product pages that don't load, redirect or need a login |
| Policy restrictions | Products in restricted categories, such as certain health products |
| Misrepresentation warnings | Missing contact details, unclear return policy or business information on the site |
How we structure Shopping campaigns for profit
Best sellers
Proven products get their own budget so they never run out of spend.
By margin
High-margin products can afford a lower ROAS target than low-margin ones, so they're bid differently.
New and untested
New products tested with a controlled budget before they join the main campaigns.
Zombie products
Products that get no impressions are found and fixed through better titles or separate campaigns.
Seasonal and sale
Festival and sale products planned with promotions and higher budgets in advance.
Remarketing
Shoppers who viewed products or left items in the cart reached again.
Purchase tracking and ROAS bidding
Shopping campaigns are only as good as their sales data. We track every purchase with its order value, check that each order is counted once, and set up enhanced conversions or GA4 links where they help. With reliable data, we use Maximise conversion value and then Target ROAS, so Google bids more for shoppers likely to place bigger or more frequent orders.
We set ROAS targets from your margins, not from a generic number. A store with 50% margin breaks even at a ROAS of 2×, while a store with 25% margin needs 4× just to cover product cost. Try your numbers below.

Find your break-even ROAS and see what a monthly budget could earn after product cost and ads, using your own numbers.
Margin = selling price minus product cost, as a % of price. Click costs and conversion rates vary by category; we share estimates for your products in the free feed check.
Estimated profit after ad spend

Google Shopping mistakes that waste money
- Product titles that are internal codes or brand names only.
- All products in one product group with one bid or one ROAS target.
- No purchase value tracking, so Google optimises for any sale, not profitable ones.
- ROAS targets that ignore your margins.
- Ignoring Merchant Center warnings until products are disapproved.
- Never checking which searches trigger your Shopping ads.

What are Google Shopping ads?+
Ads that show a product's image, title, price and store name when someone searches for that product on Google. They are created from your Google Merchant Center product feed instead of keywords, and you pay when someone clicks.
What does Google Shopping ads management include?+
Merchant Center setup and health checks, product feed optimisation, fixing disapprovals, Standard Shopping and Performance Max campaigns, product grouping by margin and performance, purchase tracking with order value, ROAS bidding and weekly product-level optimisation.
How much does Google Shopping ads management cost?+
Shopping and Merchant Center feed management are part of our Scale plan: 10% of monthly ad spend with a ₹24,999 minimum, plus 18% GST. Smaller stores can start with Search and Performance Max on our Growth plan at ₹14,999 a month. Ad spend is paid directly to Google.
What is Google Merchant Center?+
Google's free tool where you upload your product information, such as titles, prices, images and stock. Shopping ads and free product listings on Google use this data.
Why are my products disapproved in Merchant Center?+
Common reasons are price or stock mismatches between the feed and website, missing or wrong GTINs, image problems, missing shipping settings, broken product pages, restricted products and missing store policies or contact details. We find the cause and fix it at the source.
Do I need GTINs for Shopping ads?+
If a product has a manufacturer barcode (GTIN), Google expects it in the feed. Products you make yourself, like handmade or private-label items without barcodes, can usually be listed using brand and MPN or by marking that no identifier exists.
Standard Shopping or Performance Max: which is better?+
Standard Shopping gives more control and is good for testing and tight budgets. Performance Max uses the same feed across more Google placements with more automation. Most stores use both: Standard Shopping for control and Performance Max to scale once tracking is solid.
What is a good ROAS for Shopping ads?+
It depends on your margins. Your break-even ROAS is roughly 1 divided by your margin: with a 40% margin you need about 2.5× just to cover product cost. We set targets from your margins, not a generic number.
How soon will Shopping ads bring sales?+
Once Merchant Center and the feed are approved, ads can bring sales within days. Bidding usually needs a few weeks of purchase data to settle, and results typically improve over the first 2 to 3 months.
Can you work with my Shopify or WooCommerce store?+
Yes. We connect the feed through Google's official app or extension, then improve titles and attributes, and set up purchase tracking with order value on your checkout.
Do you optimise product titles?+
Yes. Titles are the biggest factor in which searches your products appear for. We rewrite them to include brand, product type and key attributes like gender, colour, size, material or capacity, in the order people search.
What are free listings on Google?+
Products from your Merchant Center feed can also appear for free in some Google Shopping results. They don't replace ads, but a healthy feed gets you this extra visibility at no cost.
Can Shopping ads run only in certain cities?+
Yes. We can target specific states, cities or a radius, matched to where you deliver, and adjust bids by location based on sales.
Do you run Shopping ads for small stores?+
Yes, but with a small catalogue or budget we often start with Search and Performance Max on the Growth plan, and add dedicated Shopping management once sales data and budget grow.
Who owns the Merchant Center and ad account?+
You do. Both are in your name and we work through user access and a manager account link. Your feed, products, data and history stay with you if you stop.
Is there a lock-in period?+
No. Plans are month to month. We recommend at least 3 months so bidding can learn from your sales.
