Quick answer
Facebook ads usually fail for a handful of fixable reasons: the wrong campaign objective, boosting posts instead of using Ads Manager, weak creatives that people scroll past, no clear offer, broken or missing tracking, a budget too small to learn, too many changes during the learning phase, and slow follow-up on leads. Find your problem with the symptom table and the ad health check below, fix one thing at a time, and give each change 5–7 days.

Start here: what's your symptom?
Different problems show up as different numbers in Ads Manager. Find your symptom, then jump to the matching mistakes.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Read |
|---|---|---|
| Ads barely spend or get few impressions | Audience too narrow, budget too low, ad rejected or limited, payment issue | Mistakes 4, 5, 12 |
| Very high CPM (cost per 1,000 views) | Narrow audience, competitive season, low-quality ad | Mistakes 4, 6 |
| Low click-through rate | Weak creative, no offer, wrong audience | Mistakes 6, 7 |
| Clicks but no leads or sales | Wrong objective, slow or confusing landing page, broken tracking | Mistakes 1, 8, 9 |
| Leads but no customers | Low-quality form, slow follow-up, offer mismatch | Mistakes 10, 11 |
| Results were good, then got worse | Creative fatigue, too many edits, audience saturation | Mistakes 3, 6 |
The 12 mistakes (and how to fix each one)
1. Choosing the wrong campaign objective
What happens: you pick Traffic or Engagement because it shows cheap clicks or likes, but you actually want enquiries or sales. Meta does exactly what you ask: it finds people who click or like, not people who buy.
Fix: choose the objective that matches your business goal: Leads for enquiries (instant forms, WhatsApp, calls), Sales for online purchases, and Engagement with WhatsApp as the destination for conversations.
2. Boosting posts instead of using Ads Manager
What happens: the "Boost post" button is quick, but it offers limited objectives, targeting and tracking. Most boosted posts optimise for likes and reach, not leads.
Fix: create campaigns in Meta Ads Manager. You get the right objective, proper placements, testing and lead tracking. Keep boosting only for awareness of a popular post.
3. Changing things every day (breaking the learning phase)
What happens: every big edit (budget, audience, creative, bid) resets Meta's learning. Ads stuck in "Learning limited" rarely perform well.
Fix: after launch, wait 5–7 days before judging. Change budgets by no more than 20–30% at a time, and make one change at a time so you know what worked. An ad set ideally needs around 50 results a week to exit learning, so consolidate small ad sets.
4. Targeting that's too narrow (or too random)
What happens: stacking many interests, tight age ranges and small locations makes the audience tiny and expensive. On the other hand, completely random interests waste money.
Fix: use broad targeting or Advantage+ audience with sensible location and age limits, and let strong creatives do the targeting. For local businesses, use a radius around your service area that's big enough (often 5–15 km in cities). Add retargeting for website visitors and video viewers.
5. A budget too small to learn
What happens: ₹200 a day split across five ad sets means each gets ₹40, which is not enough data to find buyers.
Fix: start with fewer ad sets and a budget that can produce at least a few leads a day. For most local businesses that means ₹500–₹1,000 a day in one or two ad sets. See Meta Ads cost in India for realistic budgets.
6. Weak or tired creatives
What happens: stock photos, text-heavy posters and the same ad running for months. People scroll past, CTR drops and costs rise. Frequency above about 3–4 a week often means people are tired of the ad.
Fix: test 3–5 creatives at a time: real photos, short vertical videos (Reels and Stories), customer stories, before-and-after where allowed. Put the hook in the first 2 seconds. Refresh creatives every 2–4 weeks.
7. No clear offer or reason to act now
What happens: "Best quality services. Contact us." gives people no reason to stop.
Fix: lead with a specific, believable offer: "Free site visit this weekend", "AC service from ₹499", "Demo class free for new students", "10% off till Sunday". Show a price or price range where you can, since it pre-qualifies people.
8. Sending traffic to a slow or confusing page
What happens: clicks land on a home page that takes 6 seconds to load on mobile data, with no clear form or WhatsApp button. Most people leave.
Fix: use a fast, mobile-first landing page that matches the ad's offer, with one clear action (form, call or WhatsApp). Or skip the website and use instant forms or click-to-WhatsApp ads.
9. Broken or missing tracking
What happens: the Meta Pixel isn't installed, fires on the wrong page, or lead and purchase events aren't set up. Meta can't learn who converts, so it optimises blindly, and you can't see what works.
Fix: install the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API, set up events for leads, calls, WhatsApp clicks and purchases, verify your domain, and check everything in Events Manager with a test submission.
10. Lead forms that attract junk
What happens: instant forms set to "More volume" with only pre-filled fields get many leads, but many are accidental or not serious.
Fix: switch to Higher intent, add one or two qualifying questions (budget, timeline, location), and make the offer specific. Read how to get better leads from Facebook ads.
11. Slow follow-up
What happens: leads are called the next day (or the next week). By then they've spoken to a competitor or forgotten they enquired.
Fix: call or WhatsApp every lead within 5 minutes during working hours. Connect leads to your phone, CRM or Google Sheet automatically, and send an instant WhatsApp message with your details. Follow up at least 3 times over a week.
12. Ignoring ad policies and account health
What happens: ads get rejected, limited or the account gets restricted because of misleading claims, before-and-after images in restricted categories, personal attributes ("Are you diabetic?") or payment problems.
Fix: follow Meta's Advertising Standards, avoid exaggerated promises, check Account Quality regularly, keep a valid payment method, and use the correct special ad category for housing, credit, employment and similar ads.

Healthy numbers to compare against
These are rough, indicative ranges for Indian lead-generation campaigns. Your numbers depend on industry, city and season, so use them to spot big problems, not as exact targets.
| Metric | Usually healthy | Worth investigating |
|---|---|---|
| CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) | ₹60–₹250 | Above ₹350 for broad audiences |
| Link click-through rate | 0.8%–2%+ | Below 0.5% |
| Frequency (per 7 days) | 1–3 | Above 4 |
| Landing page conversion rate | 5%–15% for lead pages | Below 2% |
| Instant form completion | 10%–25% of form opens | Below 5% |
| Lead-to-customer rate | Depends on business; track your own | A sudden drop |
A quick troubleshooting checklist in Ads Manager
- Delivery column: check for "Learning limited", "Rejected" or "Not delivering".
- Account Quality: look for restrictions or disapproved ads.
- Breakdown by placement: remove placements with high cost and no results.
- Breakdown by age, gender and region: see where results come from (only where allowed for your ad category).
- Frequency and CTR over time: rising frequency and falling CTR mean creative fatigue.
- Events Manager: confirm Pixel and Conversions API events are firing and matching.
- Lead quality: compare cost per lead with cost per customer from your sales data.

A 30-day plan to turn your ads around
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Days 1–3 | Fix tracking (Pixel, Conversions API, test events). Check Account Quality. Set up instant lead alerts and a follow-up routine. |
| Days 4–7 | Rebuild one campaign with the right objective, broad targeting and 3–5 fresh creatives with a clear offer. Pause old, poor ads. |
| Days 8–14 | Leave it to learn. Track cost per lead and lead quality daily, but don't edit unless something is clearly broken. |
| Days 15–21 | Turn off the weakest creatives, add 2 new ones, and add a retargeting ad set for website visitors and video viewers. |
| Days 22–30 | Compare cost per customer. Increase budget by 20–30% on what works, and plan next month's creatives. |
When the problem isn't the ads
Sometimes the ads are fine and the problem is elsewhere:
- The offer isn't competitive: prices much higher than alternatives without a clear reason.
- Reviews and trust: no Google reviews, an inactive Instagram page or a weak website make people hesitate.
- Sales process: leads get called but the pitch, pricing or follow-up doesn't convert.
- Wrong platform: some services are searched for rather than discovered. Read Facebook Ads vs Google Ads.
- Seasonality: demand naturally dips at certain times of year.

Frequently asked questions
Why are my Facebook ads not getting any leads?
The most common reasons are the wrong campaign objective, weak creatives with no clear offer, a slow landing page, broken tracking or a budget too small to learn. Check the symptom table in this guide to find your specific cause.
Why are my Facebook ads getting clicks but no conversions?
Usually the landing page is slow or confusing, the offer on the page doesn't match the ad, or the campaign uses the Traffic objective instead of Leads or Sales. Also check that your Pixel and conversion events are working.
Why is my Facebook ad not delivering?
Check for rejected ads, payment problems, very narrow audiences or very low budgets. Look at the Delivery column and Account Quality in Ads Manager for the exact reason.
How long should I wait before judging a Facebook ad?
Give new campaigns 5 to 7 days and enough budget to get some results before judging. Big edits during this time reset the learning phase.
Why did my Facebook ads suddenly stop working?
Common causes are creative fatigue (rising frequency, falling CTR), too many edits, seasonal competition, a tracking problem or a policy issue. Refresh creatives and check Events Manager and Account Quality.
Is boosting a post the same as running Facebook ads?
No. Boosting is a simplified option with limited objectives and targeting. Ads Manager gives you proper objectives, tracking and testing, which usually means better results for leads and sales.
What is a good CTR for Facebook ads in India?
Many lead-generation campaigns see link click-through rates of about 0.8% to 2%. Below 0.5% usually means the creative or offer isn't catching attention.
Why are my Facebook leads fake or low quality?
Forms set to More volume, broad offers like "free gift" and slow follow-up all lower quality. Use Higher intent forms, add qualifying questions and contact leads within 5 minutes.
How much should I spend on Facebook ads per day?
For most local businesses in India, ₹500 to ₹1,000 a day in one or two ad sets is a sensible start. Smaller budgets can work but take longer to learn.
Do I need the Meta Pixel to run ads?
You can run ads without it, but you should install the Pixel and Conversions API if you use a website. Without them, Meta can't optimise for leads or sales and you can't measure results properly.
Can an agency fix my Facebook ads?
A good agency can audit your account, fix tracking, rebuild campaigns and test creatives. Make sure your ad account stays in your name and results are reported as cost per lead or sale.
